Michael Smith, and Henri Etta Rexroad. The minutes for August 22,
2003 were read and approved.
TREASURER'S
REPORT: The treasurer’s report was handed out to members. The
current balance is $9,646.65.
COMMITTEE
REPORTS:
PROGRAM:
Our planned class schedule has been interrupted recently by unforeseen
circumstances. A special “brain-storming” session was held Wed
the 17th and there were many creative suggestions for obtaining
qualified instructors. These were discussed at length. Angel Ramos
and Larry Brown arrived to discuss the possibility of teaching
Latin dance. They are only available from 7-9pm on Wed. (Salsa
class 8-9 and a combination of Bachata, Merengue, and Cha-Cha-Cha
7-8)
COMMUNICATIONS: Presently
Terri Babers is handling ENews and Richard is handling all other
matters. Richard will research the possibility of advertising the
club on a website Yellow Pages. Ongoing problems getting accurate
and timely service with News-Minor were discussed. A suggestion was
made to contact Patricia Watts directly.
MEMBERSHIP:
Richard reports that we have ten paid members so far since the new sign
up year started. There are 230 people on our listserve, which overlaps
slightly with the Swing Club.
SOCIAL
ACTIVITIES: There is presently no chair for this position. Jeanne
and Terry are continuing in that capacity until a volunteer comes forward.
Terri Babers has reserved the Chena River Convention Center for the Starlight
Ball.
FACILITIES:
Henri Etta announced her resignation as Secretary and Facilities Chair
as of tonight. She regrets leaving good friends and has truly appreciated
her association with the Ballroom Club. She’ll be leaving Fairbanks
Oct 16th for a year to work in New Zealand and will keep in touch.
Another volunteer is needed for facilities chair.
OLD
BUSINESS:
SYMPHONY
BALL: It was voted at the last board meeting to give a $500
donation on behalf of The Symphony Ball (the yearly fund-raiser
for the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra). This will give the Ballroom
Club co-sponsor status and will generate favorable advertising.
VOLUNTEER
PLEA: Terry
composed and emailed a statement concerning the club’s immediate
need for volunteers to help fill empty posts, but has had
no response to date.
ANNUAL
MEETING: Terry plans to prepare an announcement of our upcoming
annual meeting at which nominations for board positions will be
accepted.
NEW
BUSINESS:
INSTRUCTOR REPLACEMENT: Angel
Ramos and Larry Brown arrived to discuss the possibility of teaching
Latin dance. They are only available from 7-9pm on Wed. (Salsa class
8-9 and a combination of Bachata, Merengue, and Cha-Cha-Cha 7-8 was
the schedule finally agreed upon after lively discussion). All present
felt optimistic that these classes would be well received. Terry
encouraged a joint effort to follow up on possibilities for providing
other classes as suggested in last Wed meeting.
CORPORATION
REP REPORT: Michael (as corporation representative) gave
a short report.
ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM
